Reformasi Mooncake in Taiwan
Sep 16th, 2006 by Tian

On 9 September 2006, Shih Ming-teh, a long time democratic activist spent 25 year in jail, led a massive sit-in to press for the resignation of President Chen Shui-bian. Shih is also one of the founders and ex-chairman of ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). Coincidentally, one of the corruption allegation involved President’s son-in-law, Chao Chien-ming (34 years old) who was charged insider trading.
Sound familiar?
Shi Ming-teh launched a special mooncake to highlight the call against corruption. Printed on the surface of the mooncake is two Chinese characters “Down Ah-Bian” (倒æ‰).

Inside the cake can be found a slip of paper with the wording “anti-corruption”.

This is another version of Shih’s Reformasi Mooncake. A note calling the masses to assemble in Ketagalan Boulevard:

The idea of using mooncake to convey protest is not new. Since Anwar incident, we in Malaysia too have been sending out message for change in mooncake (see my earlier posting in my blog).
In Taiwan, a few year before Shih Ming-teh’s mooncake the victims of flood and mud slide sent President Chen mooncakes made from mud and dirt as Mid-Autumn festival greeting.
