November 24: Having tea with some overseas friends at Kg Baru. They are here to attend a conference organised by Committee for Asian Women (CAW). In the picture are friends from the Philippines, Indonesia and Nepal. They are activists in women workers movement in their respective countries and at international level.
On my left is Carla June Natan, Coordinator of Urban Community Mission Jakarta, she was a friend when I was working in Hong Kong. She worked for Asian Migrant Center, a regional migrant advocacy NGO based in Hong Kong.
To her left is Eli, and next to Eli is Sujita. Sujita is from Nepal. She has been an active leader of General Federation of Nepali Trade Unions (GEFONT). I knew her since 1994, when I conducted a training on documentation and organizing in Kathmandu for the newly founded GEFONT.
On my right is Tess, from KMU, one of the most active trade union center in the Philippines. I have been working in many solidarity activities with KMU since late 1980s, when I was in university. KMU was formed during the struggle against Marcos dictatorship. Tess belongs to the emerging young generation of labour movement.
