Syed Hussein Alatas

Dr Syed Hussein Alatas passed away at about 21:30hr last night (23 January). According to Bernama, Syed Hussein Alatas died of heart attack. Although Syed Hussein was academician, he had also delicated a good part of his life in political struggle.
Syed Hussein was committed to a progressive multiracial society. He attempted to achieve this through founding Gerakan. To his disappointment, Gerakan had deviated from its multiracial root and ended up a Chinese party.
Syed Hussein also helped the formation of Parti Keadilan Masyarakat (Perkemas). Perkemas was the first party using the phrase “Keadilan” (Justice). Pekemas too failed to resist the chauvinistic politics within the opposition.
Syed Hussein hated corruption. He rejected corruption as a cultural phenomenon. Before we polpularized the term KKN, Syed Hussein had written enormous volumes of works on corruption.
I see our struggle for social justice, pluralism and fair distribution of wealth as the continuation of history. Today Parti Keadilan Rakyat is carrying the heritage of progressive movement in the past. We are in the process of realizing the dream of pioneers like Syed Hussein Alatas and others.
We of the new generation salute you, Dr Syed Hussein Alatas. RIP.

He is my prof.and he teach me everythings…about life,politic,politician,to hate corruption,paranormal especially about scizophrenia and how to drinks cofee,sosiology… everythings… hinggakan saya menjadi seperti orang gila memikirkan segala apa yang beliau ingin sampaikan.Hanya saya yang tahu apa yang tersimpan dalam hatinya…Alfatihah….788 and 23,his favourite number…i miss him very much…Dia tidak suka bahasa rojak…anda tahu siapa yang dia marah kerana berbahasa rojak….saya…kami pernah bertekak hanya kerana rojak hingga dia berkata orang anggap Enin gila kerana Enin menyuarakan apa yang orang lain tidak terfikir.sebagai contoh “bagaimana membina rumah yang ada sistem penyejukan semulajadi?” sedangkan dialah sebenarnya yang selalu menimbulkan 1001 tanda tanya.Dia mengajarkan segala-galanya kepada saya,saya menyayangi beliau sebagaimana saya menyayangi bapa saya sendiri, biarpun dia kata Enin umpama Al Capone.Alfatihah…semoga roh beliau ditempatkan bersama roh orang-orang yang beriman.
