After attending wedding reception in Hutan Perca, we went over to visit an old comrade in Machap Umboo.
Sun San-pao (å™ä¸‰ç‚®) was a party activist since the Labour Party days. In the 50s and 60s, Machap council was dominated by the Socialist Front. He joined Parti Keadilan Rakyat in 1999. He was the only one who dared to lend his house compound to the party, so that we can hold a ceramah (public talk).
I came with Khor Siew Yong to Machap Umboo and had our first public talk to the villagers. I was encouraged by the good attendance. That partly prompted me to stand for election in this area.
Mr Sun has been sick in the last few years. The old man is now 70 plus. He is suffering from a tumor in his throat. In the last few months, the tumor has grown quite large. Public hospital is unwilling to perform surgery to remove it as the operation will be too risky.
I took the opportunity to greet him a happy New Year and wish him good health.
