Smart Flood

Out of curiosity, I wanted to see how the SMART tunnel looks like. I probably won’t pay RM2 to go under the tunnel and get into another traffic jam. The tunnel started its toll collection on 15 June. So I decided to go for a spin into the tunnel before the toll gate begin to operate.
On 13 June, just after midnight, I and a whole carload of friends took a ride through the SMART tunnel:
Along the way, we kept speculating how the tunnel mitigate flood. We wonder whether the motorway would be filled with water during flood. According to the scheme, the tunnel is divided into two layers, the bottom level is for water passage. However it also indicates that the motorway could be used to channel out water in emergency.
However, the government admits that tunnel does not seems to be able to solve the flood problem in metro Kuala Lumpur. In Dataran, on the same night, viz. more than 48 hours after the flood, the workers were still busy pumping water out of the underground carpark.
Now it is said that more funding is needed to implement new mitigation schemes. The government is asking the people to approve more money for the cronies.
