I flew into Manila on 18 Sept to attend an international conference known as World Forum on Democratization in Asia. As the title suggests, it was a meeting of pro-democracy activitists from NGOs and political parties around the world.
Other Malaysians participated in the conference were Yap Swee Seng from Suaram, Irene Fernandez from Tenaganita, Cynthia Gabriel from CARAM, and Debie Stothard, an honourary Burmese who is coordinating ALTSEAN.
Anwar was invited to deliver a keynote speech scheduled on 20 Sept. He and Nik Nazmi arrived Manila on 19 Sept.
The conference was a great opportunity for meeting human rights and pro-democracy activitists. Our meeting was particularly timely in the view that Asia region is facing many new challenges, manifested by events in Burma, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines…
