The Coalition for Clean and Fair Election (BERSIH) calls for a mass mobilization to reclaim the people’s rights and restore the integrity of our election system.
On 22 Oct, BERSIH held a press conference to explain the action.
The people must get involved now. Currently it is everyone’s knowledge that election is being conducted in a biased way. The ruling parties relied heavily on this unfair system to stay in power.
Despite all the urgent issues and people’s unhappiness toward the government, the ruling parties could comfortably win the general election. Year in year out, the opposition parties and civil society organizations tried to highlight weaknesses and abuses during the election. However nothing had been done to improve the credibility of Malaysian election.
This time, it looks like the Barisan Nasional will again exploit the Election Commission and other government agencies in election canvasing.
There are so many issues people are protesting. Nonetheless, a bad election has robbed us off our democratic rights to determine our children and grand children’s future.
Facing with all these troubles, the PM remained silent. To him, no matter how big the crisis is, the BN has a tramp card, viz. a snap election to shut the opposition up.
With an electoral victory, the PM could again proclaim that the BN enjoy the support of the people. That’s democracy ala Hadhari! All issues could go to hell.
The people must send a loud and firmed message to the ruling regime: the government should be reformed, even before the general election.
The mass gathering will be held at Dataran Merdeka from 15:00ht onward on November 10.
In the press conference, I urged all individuals and organizations to participate in the gathering. Get out to join our struggle!
The official colour chosen for BERSIH’s mobilization is Yellow. This bright colour, symbol of protest shall flood the capital city!
Paint the town yellow: see you on November 10!
