The Government is using all means to stop public assembly. Its tactics are getting dirtier and dirtier.
On Tuesday (Dec 4) the Bar Council called off its annual Human Rights Day March due to police pressure. Some lawyers decided to continue the march in defiance of the police warning.
KeADILan’s sms system sent out a notice on the event and urged our members to attend in solidarity with the lawyers who would be marching.
Near to midnight last night (Dec 7) an sms was sent out through our system carrying the message: “PENGUMUMAN: P’arakn smbtan hari hak asasi pd 9 dec jam 730pg dr sogo ke CM oleh group lawyer of freedom of assembly di BATALkan atas sebab2 keselamatan.”
It seems that certain pro-government hacker(s) had infiltrated our system. This is quite an impossible task unless the hackers have the cooperation of the service-provider or Telekom.
This was not the first time it’s happened. Last month, during the BERSIH mobilization, “Agong” hacked into our sms system and sent out a message to urge the public not to come (read my post on Nov 10).
As I was writing, I found myself at war with a fierce exchange of smses. A series of misleading messages arrived even before we had time to correct them. Below is the chronology of the crossfire:
Hacker (23:19 8/12/2007): Pengumuman:P’arakn smbtan Hari Hak Asasi pd 9 dis jam 730pg dr Sogo ke CM oleh Lawyer For Freedom Of Assembly diBATALkn atas sebab2 keselamatan(SU AMK)
Hacker (23:27 8/12/2007): Pengumuman:P’hmpnan Solidariti perbagai kaum utk tahanan hindraf di Dat. merdeka pd 9 dis jam 9mlm (ahad) diBATALkn atas sebab2 keselamatan (SU AMK)
KeADILan (23:31 8/12/2007): Sistem sms 32244-ADIL tleh dihacked oleh anasir2 jahat umno/bn kali ke2. P’arakan peguam esok 9Dec jam 730am dr Sogo ke CM diteruskn spt dijadualkn.
KeADILan (23:37 8/12/2007): Mlm solidariti rakyat m’sia berbilang kaum & agama utk sokong hak ikat jamin 31 org tahanan HINDRAF. Ahad 9Dis 8mlm Dataran Merdeka. DTG DAN HEBAHKAN.
Hacker (23;42 8/12/2007): Tiada unsur2 sabotaj. Arahan ini diterima dari pck pimpinan. Sila ambil perhatian demi keselamatan peserta2 perhmpnan dan masa depan parti PKR (SU AMK)
(wow, the hacker even pretended to be acting on behalf of party leadership!)
Finally we had to notify the service provider to shut down the entire service until we figure out what went wrong with the security of the network.
This really puzzled me and other colleagues. How did this rascal get into our system. Worse s/he could even sabotage us by sending out false messages in real time.
I am not sure who could be doing such a hideous job (SB? Cybertroopers? Umno mole?). I cursed them all!
