Pak Lang or Md. Zaki Abdul Rasid is not doing very well lately. I received a message from Badrul on Pak Lang’s health condition. The doctor said his situation was critical and advised all family members to gather in the hospital. He has been brought in HUKM today (Dec 27).
Accompanied by Razak, I paid a visit to the hospital at about 15:00hr afternoon. He was waded in the Oncology Department. His bone cancer is spreading though he had an operation on his prostate cancer. Unfortunately the condition is not getting better.
Badrul and Era were there since his admission into the hospital. Other children and relatives were on their way.
Pak Lang appeared no longer alert of his surrounding. I greeted him and tried calling him but he did not respond. Throughout an hour I sat beside his bed, he was mostly lying peacefully. I am glad that he did not seem to be enduring any pain or suffering. That is indeed a blessing. His wife Rehan, Anwar’s sister was beside him all the time.
At first I was confused between Oncology and Ontology. Oncology is a study of cancer or tumours while ontology is about the study of the nature of being or existence.
Pak Lang in his current state prompted us to ponder more on the nature of existence. I sincerely pray that miracle will happen and Pak Lang will recover. The prospect for this is not great. However, Pak Lang had done his part—he had contributed totally and unselfishly to the struggle for freedom and human rights.
Sacrifice does not mark the end but rather it is a transformation into a new Life that sustains the future generations.

my empathy for pak lang & family … may they have the fortitude to stay strong during these difficult moments in their lives … may they be well, strong, happy and free from fear, worry, anxiety …
life in the nature of things is an on-going everchanging process of transformation from one form to another … and life continues forever …
for understanding ontology … observe Nature
