Nobody came…
Jan 13th, 2008 by Tian
Businessman Mr Loh Mui Fah revealed to Malaysiakini that he was the man Lingam spoke to in the clip. He also revealed that his son secretly recorded their conversation.
When Anwar released the clip on 19 Sept last year, Loh must have been alarmed.
He claimed that he had no role in releasing the clip. However in his interviewed by Malaysiakini, he informed that he had written to the Prime Minister on 5 Nov 2007 and offered his cooperation.
Loh also claimed that he had written an email to the 3-person investigation panel. But received no reply.
Meanwhile, he and his son had been tailed and harassed by officers from the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA).
The allegation by Loh Mui Fah is very serious in nature. His statement implies that the government has been in the know right from the very beginning. The new revelation cast a shadow over the integrity of the 3-person investigation panel. It also has important implication on the present royal commission. Two of the royal commissioners served in the previous investigation panel.
If what Loh Mui Fah said was true, there are many questions can be asked:
- Why did the PM mum over Loh’s letter and his appeal for protection?
- Same question to Tan Sri Haidar who had insisted that nobody came forward to offer information, why did he keep silent?
- What was the role of the ACA? Did the ACA act on the tip off from VK Lingam?
In short, it is obvious that the authorities knew that the clip was genuine and have already had the means to tract down the maker of the video not long after Anwar released the clip.
While in actual fact, the members of the investigation panel need no further evidence on the authenticity of the clip.
Even when the Royal Commission was formed, Tan Sri Haidar continued to be silent on the identity of the video maker. If Mr Loh Mui Fah did not voluntarily present himself to the public, I wonder he would ever be called for the inquiry.
If we recalled, the NST and The Star reported on 18 Oct:
After three weeks, not a single person has got in touch with the secretariat of the independent panel… (NST)
Tan Sri Haidar Mohd Noor said… “I take it that nobody has come forward. If anybody had come forward, I’m sure the secretariat would have alerted me,†he told The Star.
Was this a wayang then?
p/s: Anwar has been called by the Royal Commission to attend the inquiry on 14 Jan morning.
Tian,
Looks like very high level of conspirasy to cover-up certain people/s and many things having dallying the matters for such long, but having read the transcript of the telephone conversation of the “Liggamtape”,
I doubted Linggam’s chatting partner at the other end was Loh Mui Fah.
Thanks TC, this is exactly what we have been discussing around town. This Haidar`s Royal commission is a massive joke on the people. What`s more the PM is part of the rip-off, he runs away to Spain hoping the furore would die down.
Haidar should have recused himself. The bias is apparent.
I had lost my trust to our government in the beginning stage for setting up 3 persons investigation panel. It was a wise decision from Datuk Seri Anwar not to disclose the whistle blower before royal commision had been formed……you know, role of ACA over here is to protect the culprits but to get the whistle blowers apprehended.
i need a favour from anyone who can help…Loh Mui Fah is a long lost friend, last time i saw him was 14yrs ago OMG! i saw the story about him and Lingam’s case in singapore newspaper today!
so if anyone knows how i can get in touch with mui fah tht would be fantastic!
i applaud his courage and very concern with his safety, malaysian gov cant be trusted it is so screwd up.
norah u from where?
i will try pass the msg for u….
[...] is hard to get for a successful prosecution (oh, never mind the fact that ACA is often seem to be harassing the witness than the wrongdoer – case in point, the Lingam’s case). It’s time to enact [...]
This has again raised many issues on our governmental’s structural problems, esp. lack of independence of several enforcement departments, e.g., police, legal, corruption, media etc.
How can the enforcement departments perform check and balances activities on the government, if they are not even independent from them? Even a kid like me would understand this segregation of duties issue!
