Back in cyberspace
Mar 17th, 2008 by Tian
Hi, I am back.
It had been a very exhausting week after the election result. I also felt heavy burden with great expectation from the people.
Malaysia is now catching up with the development of other countries. We are moving towards a multi-party democracy.
However to maintain and to continue inspiring the people is much more difficult than to overthrow the government.
Over the last few days, besides spending time shaking hands, I also tried to forge better links between parties. Now the coalition of DAP, PAS and KeADILan had successfully and firmly formed, its time to work on our reform agenda.
The coalition also need a formal structure. This I believe leaders of the 3 parties are talking, and a unified team will be formed.
As I am writing, UMNO and its cronies are trying to destabilize the newly formed state government. There had been a few demonstrations sponsored by UMNO. Welcome my friends in UMNO for maintaining disciple and peace in the rally. Though the police alleged that the gatherings have no permit, no demonstrators arrested.
This is a great improvement: now the police is upholding a high standard of tolerance towards peaceful gatherings. I don’t wish to see the experiences of reformists being repeated on UMNO protesters.
Anyway, congratulations to UMNO. Only slightly more than a week ago, UMNO and its allies declared demonstrations “bukan budaya kita”. Now UMNO is in agreement with us. Welcome to the club!

I hope this scene will not be repeated anymore
We’re with you guys all the way, Tian Chua. Don’t lose your sense of humor. I just love the thought of you as an MP - a Yang Berkhidmat no less. The last time I saw you on YouTube, you were being punched by a cop even as his colleagues dragged you from your car and carried you off ceremoniously - all in clear view of the Parliament! I salute your phenomenal courage…now let’s get to work on the stamina
BRAVO!

BRAVO!
Selamat bertugas !
Welcome back sir. I met u at the Keadilan Centre in Jln Sentul and volunteered to be a polling agent (La Salle) after the request on Haris’s blog. Congratulations on your win. I guess now is when the hard work will begin. God bless you in all that you set out to do for the people
Hi Tian Chua,
I am very happy with the election results. We have hope now! Time for a change! Thank you Tian Chua for all the hardwork you have done. In one of the reformasi, I saw you lying down and being carried by the policemen and the manner of how Nathienel was arrested. At that moment, I feel so sad for this country. After that day, I did two things.
1) I make sure that I get to vote although I have never bother to vote all these years
2) I tell everyone that I met to read Malaysia today and malaysia kini
Keep up the good work.
I wonder why they don’t beat up those UMNO demonstrators?
Welcome back!
The double faced UMNO is waiting for their death with this kind of racial based demos. They just refuse to understand that this is no more 1969 era. The people are much more matured to see beyond the racial mask these goons are trying show. Well, one thing is proved that the UMNO goons had to keep their mouth from now on and can not cry “Demotrasi bukan budaya kita”. Shame on them. They can not engage a proper discussion. They are scared of their ill gotten wealth is slipping away. Let them dance around. People are just fed-up with them. By next election they will be nowhere. For PKR-DAP-PAS, keep moving forward. You have the RAKYAT support.
Congratulations upon your election victory! All the hard work has paid off. We hope you will do well as an MP in representing the rakyat, and wish you success.
Having a united front (DAP/PKR/PAS) among the coalition parties is the most important step forward in view of the BN’s divide-and-rule government for 50 years, pitting the people and races against each other by using racial politics.
Congratulations again. I am sure PKR-DAP-PAS can do much better than old gov in the 5 states that they are ruling now. I would like to suggest that all MP and Dun members from PKR-DAP-PAS must declare publicly their personal wealth and that of their immediate family memebrs - spouse & children. Whenever possible, these 5 states must limit the serving terms of their CM/MB to at most 3 terms. In the long run but before next GE, a mechanism must be formulated to make sure that only the most suitable candidates be appointed the state exco members regardless of race, religion and party. This will prevent these 3 parties from repeating the old rotted system practising by BN all the while. If all these can be done, BN will be forced to reform it self similarly. Best still if there will be no racial parties in Malaysia forever!
YB, it’s been a pleasure meeting you the other day at your office. You might not know me but I had been a supporter since your name frequented the MSM during the BERSIH and the Parliament Petition protests. I commented on Jed Yoong’s column on “Tian Chua. It’s time he is a MP” :”This is what selfless really mean…..” (read here:http://jedyoong.wordpress.com/2008/03/05/tian-chua-its-time-he-is-an-mp/)
We hope you could continue to stand up against the powerful and mighty. We also hope you could make your presence felt in DBKL to right all the wrongs in the city. We will be your eyes and your ears. Rest assured, you will hear from us!
Congratulations again, Yang Berkhidmat!
salam saudara Tian chua.

Let’s hope the authority does not practice “inbalance” in social and economic actions. It’s early days…..hence the DAP-PKR-PAS Team must be strong and present a credible force to check those in power.
It’s time for a Shadow Cabinet system to hold those cabinet ministers responsible for their actions and inactions.
The outcome of 2008GE speaks for itself…….we need a fundamental change in the directions of the Malaysian social and economic system !!
selamat memikul tugas mulia..

Hi YB, Congratulations and I hope the first agenda is to clean the electrol roll.
Dear YB Tian Chua,
I can definitely appreciate your twist on matters viz the ‘demontrasi bukan budaya kita’ (as PKR, DAP and PAS) has done so often with everything else.
However, I urge caution against using the word ‘overthrow’. What happened was the suara rakyat for change, reforms rather than a revolt!
Harapan Baru Untuk Malaysia
can i have mr chua tian chang had phone no. because i have very urgent cause to contract him.
Hey, my brothers and sisters in Malaysia irregardless of race,
Congratulations and Well done. I am so proud to be known as a Malaysian again. What an achievement despite the intense BN actions and provocations. I will finally like to call Malaysia home again. Especially proud of the fact that my fellow Malaysians be it Malay, Chinese or Indians are able to see the senseless way the BN had been able to dictate the racial based agenda for 50 years and divide us as a nation. We can now work hard to prove these bad people in the BN wrong that we Malaysians are truly Asians of one identity and nationality. Truly Malaysia Boleh and not their stupid cliche to pretend to divide us as a people and as a nation.
Now on to the trial of Altantunya to bring the real culprit and justice for her and the Lingam tapes.
it’s time for you to walk the talk and Batu voters have all the confidence in you.
Yang Berhormat Tian Chua,
Congratulations on your winning. Show them our power.
well done Tian, PKR.
Heard Anwar is busy enticing BN MPs to join PKR or DAP, PAS. Tian, I am from Sabah. I know the feeling of being betrayed by my MPs who jumped ship. Anwar had a hand in the Sabah affairs in 1990s where many PBS assemblymen jumped ship and ignore the people’s mandate.
My advice, ask Anwar to ask those BN MPs to resign , if they want to join PKR/DAP/PAS, and let their constituents decide. Don’t play dirty. Most importantly, don’t trust sabah Umno MPs. You’ll rue that day. We in Sabah know them only too well.
Dear Oris,
Thank you for your concern. In fact we are not interested to lure any MP from BN to join us. Our plan is to consolidate the coalition of KeADILan, PAS and DAP. We can prove to the people we provide better governance than the BN. There is no rush to take over the national government.
Regards,
Tian
Dear Y.B,
Congratulations to you and ur team! Finally!! I am so glad u r representing the people..Ur such an inspiration to all Malaysians. Please give them hell in parliament.
Now that you are a Member of Parliament (MP), do press ahead with freedom of expression in Malaysia, one that comes with responsibilty.
Through the years, you and your fellow intelectual ones had been supressed and harassed by the authority. It’s time to voice you views (and that of most Malaysian) in the Parliament.
The minority and marginalised had spoken out loud and clear the disappointment, discontent and anger against the current government. So please hold the cabinet accountable to the people of this land, Malaysia.
Tian Chua,
Hope your stay in Sydney and Melbourne during your student days gave you the energy and mindset to be an effective and responsible Member of Parliament.
I salute your courage to face the government machinenary.
(Pls seek ways to secure the release of your fellow MP who is currently being locked up, one who won 2008GE in absentia, a clear message in anyone’s langguage).
[...] Back in cyberspace - Tian Chua [...]
Bravo!!! Congrats to you and your team. Welcome back!!. We missed your jokes. Worry not, we will be with you all the way. You will get our full support.
BTW, pls ensure the BR (PKR-PAS-DAP) stay united. We are not like the BODOWI team!!! Stay united as a team show BODOWI and his Kitchen Cabinet Team and we are more civilised!! No ISA needed!!
Dear Sir,
Please ensure the Barisan Rakyat does a good job in the 5 free states, so that the people in my state of Johor will see hope in the PKR-DAP-PAS coalition and vote BN out the next election. At present, BN is still very strong here because of racial chauvinism and an intense fear of retaliation from the authorities.
Hi Tian Chua,
I append herewith another article of mine for your comments. Thank you.
NO MORE NEGOTIATED TENDER PLEASE!
May 3rd, 2008
The Prime Minster’s reply in Parliament on 30-04-08 that under the 9th Malaysia Plan, a total of RM153 billion had been approved for projects, of which RM63 billion or a good 38% were under direct negotiation and the rest by open tender, is something we, as citizens of a civil siciety, have a good reason to ponder over.
Firstly, it is generally observed that negotiated tender could not ensure a fair competition among the suppliers or contractors, and would thus mean that the government would have to pay for a higher cost for goods and services. This has become unduely taxing to the tax-payers.
Secondly, the materials or works secured may not be of the best quality or standed, given the situation that there is limited scope of suppliers or contractors.
Thirdly, direct negotiation with companies seem to provide chances for bribery and corruption, as the power to select suppliers or contractors may then in a position to ask for kick-backs or commissions, which are, in fact, strictly prohibited under the law.
Fourthly, such system tends to breed cronism and nepotism, as the same power may then usurp this golden opportunity to build up its own sphere of support and influence. At the very least, it is hereby argued, favouratism and political patronage may have a good chance to grow under such unhealthy circumstances.
Therefore, if the BN government is serious about to transform itself to become more acceptable to the general public, top on its political agenda should be one of possibly getting rid of the negotiated tender system altogether. However, such a system should only be considered, if at all , only upon failure of an open tender which must be called for at least more than 3 times. This is to ensure that the authority concerned is truely facing a situation whereby no capable supplier or contractor could come forward for a bid, or whereby the subject matter is so unique, so rare or so specific that it is not freely available in the open market.
The Pakatan Rakyat government in the 5 states has already announced to go for open tender for all government projects of the value of over RM20,000 each. This is something of a break-through indeed as we have strong reservation of a negotiated tender system for its inherent weaknesses and chances for abuses as aforesaid. Therefore, it is sincerely hoped that the BN government at both the Federal and State levels, not excluding all the local authorities, district offices, government agencies and statutory bodies , should put down its pride by emulating from the 5 PR state governments in this regard, so that tender should not only be called, but be manifestedly and undoubtedly seen as being openly, transparently, and accountably called!
