Wan Azizah
Aug 1st, 2008 by Tian

Dr Wan Azizah submitted her resignation as MP for Permatang Pauh today. This will give way for Anwar Ibrahim to contest in the by-election and return to Parliament. (Malaysiakini 31 July)
As a member of the party leadership, I was part of the decision and I understood the strategic considerations in this process. Finally, it is Anwar’s turn to enter the ring.
While I am excited over the new development, I also could not help feeling sad.
Due to other engagement, I was not at the press conference when Kak Wan announced her stepping down. However if I were there, I may not be able to suppress my emotion during her announcement.
I served under President Kak Wan since the founding of KeADILan—first as her Vice President, then from 2003 as Information Chief.
Anwar Ibrahim had been the spark that ignited our Reformasi struggle. However throughout the decade-long struggle, Anwar was deprived from directly providing the movement his guidance and leadership.
Wan Azizah has been the torch bearer for our arduous long march. She was more than a symbol but some one who carried out the task of transforming Malaysian political landscape.
I first met face-to-face with Anwar and Wan Azizah in their Damansara house on the night Anwar was sacked by Mahathir. A few days later, Azizah stood beside Anwar at the balcony of Masjid Negara. Anwar announced to the thousands who assembled “Azizah will take my place if I am gone!”
Wan Aziah emerged—not merely as the proxy of Anwar, but indeed as the spokewoman as well as the leader for the masses who demanded change. Her wisdom and inner strength impressed and inspired millions.
Wan Azizah was first seen as the defender of justice for her husband. In actual fact, she was the true leader who executed the task of building a reform movement for Malaysia. She can definitely be proud of that. I am sure many Malaysians especially women are proud of her. Her sacrifice and endurance of hardship had opened up the window of opportunity for democracy in Malaysia.
Like Prophet John the Baptist, Wan Azizah cleared the path and proclaimed the coming of Anwar. Anwar will continue from the achievement of Wan Azizah.
After the press conference, journalists, political and apolitical friends called me. All of them expressed their respect and admiration for Azizah. Many said they will miss her greatly in parliament.
Whichever path Malaysians take from here, Kak Wan has a prominent place recorded in the history. I believe the coming generations will salute her, as an outstanding politician, and with the rare qualities of selflessness, modesty and humility.
Nurul Izzah’s reaction to the resignation summed up Azizah’s accomplishment: “My dad is the luckiest man on earth…”
p/s: Even Mahathir was moved by Azizah and could not hide his envy of Anwar (Malaysiakini)
Tian I couldn’t help but notice the lady cops in the background smiling away-happy about something. Is it that the Police is under duress by the governing clique and its own top brass which is reeking Malaysia humiliating the hell out of us.
Ps. About MahaPhaoun’s envy- seek refuge for it is he who started this whole morbid affair. His greedy children too. Next time you have to mention leave the devil out of it.
This is stupid. *Shakes head*
Frankly, I was willing to vote for Wan Azizah, but not her husband. Anwar Ibrahim has too much baggage.
Fairdinkum ,
a true Malaysian by heart and soul and a great wife and a motherly figure who cannot be forgotten for years to come. Long live PKR and Democracy and my beloved country MALAYSIA.
she is indeed a wonder woman.
TDM is indeed envious. And very bitter still. What would Anwar be without Azizah.
This is the most defining moment for our political scenario. The path for Anwar to become an MP again and speak up for the rights of all Malaysians. I believe all Malaysians immaterial of political believe and association will hope for a CHANGE to come after the by-election result.
DS Wan has done a great favour for all of us. She is fit to be perfect role model of a First Lady. An examplary Muslim woman with a tender touch on humanity and love for all. I offer my prayer to the Almighty , may He bless her with good health and prosperity .
as for Anwar …. victory is CONFIRMED ,
Greatest news indeed. All Malaysians are waiting for. May be BN will garner only 0.0005% of total votes in this by-election. Oh then they will annouce we still can WIN 0.0005%. Not bad !!!???!!!
My tears started swelling while reading your comments on Madam Azizah. Her looks alone will melt any hardened personality. A doctor who was forced to undergo tremendous challenges. A wife who had to tolerate all the embarassments and sufferings of her husband. A leader who steadfastly lead a party called PKR. A softspoken person but recently she screamed at the unemployed millionaire Khairy Jamaludin who commented about the polis’ insistence on DSAI’s blood. This showed her total frustration against the govt goons who are bent on destroying DSAI’s political comeback. She will be forever entrenched in the minds of Malaysians as a brave warrior, who marshalled the march for true domocracy and justice.
thanks 4 the lil’ insight…someone should write a book in the near future about Wan Azizah. i just hope i can emulate all the strength that she has all through the trials and tribulations. DSAI is indeed one damned lucky fellow to haf a wifey like Wan Azizah. The emotions shown by their daughters standing behind their beloved mama at the press conference clearly showed everthing.
It’s indeed noble to sacrifice self for a larger cause
We all know why it has to be done this way because
There’s no better choice to make due to legal clauses
That try to restrict all other legitimate resources
When one is prepared to pay the price
Then one will readily accept the sacrifice
There’s more to living than eating rice
And we won’t know the future by throwing a dice

Woman of integrity, humble & modest..all the best in her pursuit of a better Malaysia than yesterday.Sacrifices are the cornerstone in any nation’s history for change to take place .And Wan Azizah is a symbol of change!
I would like to endorse the sentiments expressed by Tian Chua and to add that it was Datin Wan Azizah’s great inner strength that combusted ther flame of reformasi; without Datin Wan, the years that Anwar spent in prison will have doused the reform movement. I would like to tell all the people in Malaysia that Datin Wan’s charisma radiates the light of peace and composed wisdom; a natural communicator. I saw her interviewed on Australian TV and I was very moved by her inner strength as was most Malaysians who now live in our adopted home.
I wish also to add that the decision that is made by both Dato & Datin Anwar is an excellent one because Dato Seri Anwar really need to contest in a bye- election that is beyond any doubt because I believe the government will not stop at anything to pull Anwar out of Malaysian politics. I have no doubt whatsoever that Dato Seri has what is required to take government and only the foul means of the BN will thwart the achievement of Dato Seri’s objective. Therefore for that reason we can understand why it has to be the absolutely certain seat of Permatang Puah, where Anwar’s victory cannot be in any doubt at all. The recent controversy arising from the very suspeciuos behavour of PAS is sufficient reason why Dato Seri needs to stand for election in his wife’s constituency.
I finally and more importantly like to address my Chinese brothers & sisters. It is very obvious that there will be friction between DAP vs PAS within the PK coalition and that PAS has to be held in doubt. I believe that PAS wants Malay dominance like UMNO and what their strategy is for remaining in Perkatan Rakyat must be treated with caution. It is for this reason that I want to ask my Chinese brothers & sisters to DEAL A DEATH BLOW TO MCA & GERAKAN (BOTH SUPPOSED TO BE REPRESENTATIVE OF CHINESE INTERESTS). HOW DO WE KILL OFF MCA ? THE ANSWER IS VERY SIMPLE, I ASK EVERY CHINESE BROTHER & SISTER TO RESIGN I mean really write a letter of resignation from membership of the MCA. I KNOW THAT DROVES OF MCA MEMBERS HAVE CROSSED TO PARKATAN RAKYAT but that is not enough, A WRITTEN RESIGNATION IS EQUIVALENT TO A VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE IN THE RELEVANCE OF THE MCA. If every Chinese MCA writes his letter resignation and resignas from MCA, the flood of no confidence votes will demonstrate the death of MCA. This will force MCA members of parliament to cross the floor of Parliament to joing with Parkatan Rakyat.
I ask my Chinese brothers & sisters to do this because from the way the Badawi government has PERVERTED THE COURSE OF POLICE INVESTIGATION & THE BEHAVOUR OF A COMPLIANT JUDICIARY DEMONSTRATES TO ME THAT UMNO HAS ALREADY DECIDED TO SEIZE ABSOLUTE POWER FOR THEMSELVES. For the first time in their pathetic history, I ask MCA to do the right thing and support Pakatan Rakyat and bring the opposition into government; if MCA miss this one time opportunity, then MCA will consign all Chinese to becoming slaves to UMNO.
I repeat my request to all Chinese MCA members to resign by writing; and to make your letter of resignation INTO A VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE IN THE FURTHER EXISTENCE OF MCA AS REPRESENTATIVE OF CHINESE INTERESTS.
Yes, Anwar is a lucky guy to have a wife like Wan Azzizah. As a resident of Seberang Jaya, I can assure you that Anwar will win outright whatmore with the medical leakage. Even when UMNO is at the height of power with the whole state and federal machineries working against Wan Azzizah they can’t even topple her. Now PKR is the state gov’t. March Anwar March!!!! we are all for you. God bless you Wan Azzizah and your family.
frm dato seri anwar to dr wan azizah……..
all ur best to tien chua too
As I look into you eyes
I know the reasons why
My life’s worth a thousand skies
You’re the simplest love I’ve known
And the purest one I’ll own
Know you’ll never be alone
CHORUS
My baby you
Are the reason I could fly
And ’cause of you
I don’t have to wonder why
Baby you
There’s no more just getting by
You’re the reason I feel so alive
Though these words I sing are true
They still fail to capture you
As mere words can only do
How do I explain that smile
And how it turns my world around
Keeping my feet on the ground
REPEAT CHORUS
I will soothe you if you fall
I’ll be right there if you call
You’re my greatest love of all
REPEAT CHORUS
Arianna I feel so alive
Gosh!! She is so good, we women needed to have her in Parliament to put up our issues.
Sad that such a capable woman had to give up her seat, I would have liked to see her in the cabinet!!
Now who will bring up the Foreign Spouse Issue?
A jewel that radiates the light of loving kindness, understanding, hardworking, humanity and the pillars of strength of PARTI KEADILAN RAAYAT.
YB Tian,
may I know what is the hurry for pakatan rakyat to take over the government? Why not concentrate on the 4 states. Show the rakyat pakatan rakyat can manage well and surely pakatan rakyat will be voted as the next government in the next election?
Behind every great man lies an even greater woman.
Thanks YB Tian for this nice lines,

Dear YB,
This is indeed our iron lady. May God bless her and her family
Datin Seri Wan Azizah is a good example of a Muslim woman - educated, liberated and yet submissive with a demeanor so sweet and wise and most of all unlike someone else we know who wants her husband to be the next PM as well.
So unlike the woman whom people and civil servants fear. But Datin Seri Wan Azizah is fine material for the next lady in waiting.
