Two days before Najib Razak swapped his defence portfolio with Abdullah, he authorized the purchase of a dozen of Eurocopter EC-725.

Until today, the public are still unsure of how much the choppers will cost the taxpayers. However we can be sure It could add a few hundreds millions into Najib’s war chest for Umno election.

The original intention of calling for tender was to replace the aged transport helicopter Nuri. Yet Najib decided on EC-725, which is a model of combat aircraft. Interestingly, during the budget debate in Parliament on 26 October, the Deputy Defence Minister revealed that the Royal Airforce personnel had never inspected the aircraft before the decision.

Why the rush? Is there a war heading this way?

As far as the nation is concerned, we are not facing any immediate external threats. However one could sense that a fierce battle is looming.

With 12 combat choppers, Najib appeared to have an upper hand. Not only he received a smooth sailing for his nomination for the top post.

29 October, PM Abdullah Badawi ordered a crash landing of the choppers. He is aided by the assault squad from ACA.
